Wanted: Dordrecht teams for the Waterhelden
On 26 and 27 September the Voorstraathaven turns into an arena. Dordrecht clubs, neighbourhoods, companies and groups of friends build their own raft on Saturday and compete for the Golden Bailer on Sunday. You can sign up until Monday 14 September.
On the final weekend of Festival Voor de Vloed, the Voorstraathaven turns into a churning arena. Dordrecht teams build their own raft on Het Hof on Saturday 26 September, put it in the water on Sunday 27 September and compete for the Golden Bailer. The city watches from the quays, the bridges and the stands.
We are looking for clubs, groups and companies who reckon they are the most fun, the strongest or the smartest in town: sports clubs, neighbourhood groups, student associations and scouting, water sports clubs, businesses, or the regulars at your local pub. You do not need experience on the water and you do not need to be an athlete. You need a group that wants to build something together and see it through together.
We provide the barrels and the paddles, a sports shirt per participant in your own team colour, and supervision on the water by Reddingsbrigade Dordrecht. The rest you build and decorate yourself. The winning team receives the Golden Bailer, the right to carry the trophy for a year, and its own weight in sand. There is also a prize for the team with the best fan club, so bring your neighbours and your banners.
A team consists of 6 to 10 people aged 16 or over. You can sign up until Monday 14 September through the form on the Waterhelden page; places are limited and the organisation makes a selection from the entries.
